Pumps & Drilling

Borehole Pump Installation & Repairs

We install new borehole pump systems and repair existing ones. Serving residential, agricultural and commercial properties across Gauteng, North West and Limpopo.

Borehole drilling rig striking water

A borehole is only as reliable as its pump. When a pump fails or is sized incorrectly for your water demand, you lose access to your own water supply. Hard Rock Boreholes has been getting pumps right for 15 years — new installations, repairs and full replacements.

We work on all major borehole pump brands and assess your borehole depth, yield and daily water demand before recommending anything. You get the right pump for your setup, not the one we happen to stock.

What We Do

Comprehensive solutions for borehole setups, pump diagnostics, replacements, and structural system fixes.

Ground Water Surveying (Borehole Siting)

Drilling blindly is a high financial risk. We conduct scientific ground water surveys (borehole siting) using advanced geophysical mapping equipment to locate underground aquifers. This ensures we position the borehole in the spot with the highest potential water yield and quality.

  • Geophysical resistivity and electromagnetic mapping
  • Siting for optimal borehole placement and yield
  • Depth and geological formation estimation
  • Sewer line and structural boundary offset assessments
  • Complete geophysical reporting before drilling starts
  • Siting services for residential, agricultural, and commercial sites

Professional Borehole Drilling

Need a new borehole drilled? We manage the full process from siting to commissioning. Our state-of-the-art compact crawler drilling rigs allow us to access tight spaces, including residential yards, without causing extensive damage to your property.

  • Siting and depth assessment integration
  • Compact crawler rig deployment for tight access
  • Heavy-duty steel or PVC casing installation
  • Aquifer yield testing to measure water flow
  • Sanitary seal installation to prevent contamination
  • Complete system commissioning and handover

New Borehole Pump Installation

If you have a borehole without a pump, or an existing pump that is too small for your needs, we supply and install a correctly sized replacement. We assess the borehole depth and static water level, calculate your peak daily demand and select a pump that delivers the right flow and pressure for your property.

  • Site assessment and borehole inspection
  • Pump sizing and selection based on yield
  • Supply of pump and all ancillary components
  • Installation and professional commissioning
  • Pressure testing before final handover
  • Basic operator briefing for local maintenance

Borehole Pump Repairs & Troubleshooting

Borehole pumps fail for several reasons — motor burnout, worn impellers, cable faults, blocked filters, or running dry. We diagnose the fault correctly before starting any repair work, so you do not pay to replace parts that do not need replacing.

  • No water delivery or weak flow diagnosis
  • Reduced operating pressure troubleshooting
  • Pump running continuously but drawing no water
  • Tripping of electric circuit breakers fixed
  • Noisy or heavily vibrating pumps serviced
  • Control panel and motor starter troubleshooting

Full Pump Replacement

Older pumps lose efficiency before they fail completely. If your pump is more than 10 years old and showing signs of wear, a replacement is often more cost-effective than ongoing repairs. We pull the existing pump, inspect the borehole casing and rising main, and install a brand new unit.

  • Safe extraction and disposal of the old pump
  • Borehole casing and water level inspection
  • Pump sizing verification for modern demands
  • Installation of premium pump & motor units
  • Upgraded heavy-duty electrical cables and safety ropes
  • Full system pressure testing and validation

Borehole System Repairs

Problems are not always the pump. We diagnose and repair the full borehole system — rising mains, casing damage, valve failures, pressure tank faults and pipework issues. If water is not getting from the borehole to your taps, we find where the problem is and fix it.

  • Rising main piping inspection and replacement
  • Electrical cable and control panel replacements
  • Pressure tank and pressure switch diagnostics
  • Base plate and sanitary seal reconstruction
  • Declining yield diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Borehole water quality testing and chemical treatments

Common Questions

Find quick answers regarding our diagnostic checks, replacement timeframes, and parts availability.

Why is ground water surveying (siting) necessary before drilling?
Ground water surveying uses advanced geophysical mapping equipment to locate water-bearing fracture zones and aquifers underground. Drilling without a survey (drilling blindly) carries a high risk of hitting a dry borehole or a low-yield source, which can result in significant wasted costs. A survey ensures we drill in the spot with the highest yield potential.
How do I know my borehole pump needs replacing?
The clearest signs are a drop in water pressure, the pump running continuously without delivering water, or the breaker tripping regularly. We can inspect your system and give you an honest assessment.
How long does a borehole pump installation take?
Most installations take half a day to a full day, depending on borehole depth and the complexity of the pipework. We'll give you a time estimate when we quote.
Do you carry parts on the day?
We carry common components for most standard pump brands. For specialist parts, we will advise on lead time before starting the job.
